Easter Pilgrimage
Every Easter churches from all over the Diocese walk from their home church to St Albans Abbey. We would love all of you to join us for some or all of our pilgrimage.
The full distance is 23 miles. It’s a great time of community walking together, enjoying the beautiful countryside and talking. 23 Miles is quite the distance so we have lots of options for how you can get involved. Please let us know you’re coming by signing up or contact Claire, our youth worker claire.mcdonnell@stpaulsletchworth.co.uk or 07518 369261 for more info
The Options
OPTION 1 – Walk ALL the way (23 miles)
OPTION 2 – Walk HALF of the way – Either Sunday (10.5 miles) or Monday (11.5 Miles)
OPTION 3 – Walk SOME of the way – Meet us at Sandridge Village Hall and walk the last 3 miles – suitable for pushchairs and dogs too!
OPTION 4 – The ABBEY – meet us at the Abbey for a family picnic and to greet those with tired feet!
OPTION 5 – Event SUPPORT – Depending on numbers, we will need lots of support in many different ways – a support car to meet walkers at key points, a cook, cars to take sleeping stuff to the hall (Sun) and home again (Mon), cars to take the walkers home from the Abbey.
The Route

Leaving St Paul’s at 2.15pm on Easter Sunday.
We will have rest stops at Great Wymondley, Chapelfoot and Hitchwood Lane.
We will arrive at Whitwell Village hall around 7pm and share dinner together.

Help Needed
Can you help with any of the following?
Wave us off
Meet us at St Paul’s at 2.15pm on Easter Sunday and wave us off. Encourage us and most importantly pray for us!
Rest Stops
There are many rest stops along our route. If you could help by being a support car, you will be provided with everything you might need – flasks of hot water for tea and coffee, cake and snacks, water and plasters!
Easter Sunday rest stops are in the afternoon and Easter Monday are in the morning.
Meals
Dinner – When our weary walkers arrive at Whitwell at 7pm on Easter Sunday we want them to be greeted with a hot meal, but we need someone to cook it.
Breakfast – Our walkers need a hearty breakfast. Could you cook for us at 7am on Easter Monday?
Lunch – We want our walkers to enjoy a refreshing picnic that hasn’t been lost in the bottom of their backpacks since they left St Paul’s. Can you help?
Transport
Moving kit – Could you transport the sleepers overnight kit form St Paul’s to Whitwell? This would tie in nicely with someone offering support car or cooking also.
Moving people – Whether our walkers join us from St Paul’s Whitwell or Sandridge we’re not expecting them to walk back again! Could you offer a lift to some weary walkers.
Welcome Party
Walking 23 miles is a big achievement and we would love to have a welcome party to whoop and cheer when we make it to be abbey at 1.30pm on Easter Monday
Hall Hire
We are hiring a hall to sleep over on Easter Sunday. We need someone to collect the key and open up for us. We also need someone to clear up after us, lock up and return the keys.
